Labour candidate Keith Hunter leading the way in Humberside PCC race

Labour's Keith Hunter is currently leading the way in the race become the new Police and Crime Commissioner at Humberside Police.

The results of voting in North Lincolnshire put Mr Hunter on 10,831 votes compared to Conservative incumbent Matthew Grove's 8,346.

UKIP's Mike Whitehead polled 4,359 while Liberal Democrat Denis Healy was fourth with 1,748.

Jeremy Corbyn: Labour 'hung on' amid 'growing support'

Labour "hung on" and "grew support" in council elections across England in the face of poor predictions, leader Jeremy Corbyn said during a visit to Sheffield.

He admitted there was "a lot of building to do" in Scotland following dire results in the Holyrood elections.

Mr Corbyn insisted he would continue as Labour leader: "I'm carrying on. Don't worry about that. I'm carrying on. I'm fine. I'm very happy."

Turnout in South Yorkshire Police Commissioner election doubles

Twice the number of voters have turned out for the latest poll to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner in South Yorkshire compared to the last ballot.

Election officials at the count in Barnsley say the turnout for yesterday's vote was 29.48%. The turnout at the previous poll in November 2014 was 14.8%.

Labour candidate Dr Alan Billings is aiming to keep the job which has been in the headlines following a series of controversies over Hillsborough Disaster, the Rotherham child sex abuse scandal and calls for an inquiry into the so-called Battle of Orgreave.

The result is expected at around 12.30pm today.
