York could become the first low emission city in the UK.
163 people die every year because of poor air quality. That is the same number of deaths from alcohol abuse, obesity and road accidents combined.
The biggest problem with polluted air is how much nitrogen oxide is in it because this is linked to lung diseases, heart conditions and cancer.
Officials in York are planning on introducing low emission buses, lorries and taxis, as well as vehicles running on electricity and compressed natural gas.
