Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was sexually assaulted in Leeds in the early hours of this morning (14 August).
At about 5am outside the Palace pub near Maude Street in the city centre, a 19-year-old woman was approached by a white man while she was making her way home after a night out. She told the man to go away but he persisted in following her, before then pushing her against the wall of the Palace pub off Kirkgate.
The victim resisted and the male then pushed her into bushes on the edge of the Maude Street car park. A female passer-by then spotted the attack and shouted at the man causing him to flee the scene. He was described as a white, around 20-30 years old and of medium build with fair brown hair.
"This was clearly a terrifying incident for the victim who is being supported by specially trained officers today. She received some visible physical injuries and was extremely distressed by what took place.
"It is important we locate this suspect as soon as possible and I would ask anyone who saw a man fitting the description walking alongside the victim near the Palace pub, or the same man fleeing the scene to contact us.
"Anyone who can assist is asked to contact myself at Leeds District CID on 101 quoting log 197 of August 14."
