21-year-old man dies and girl,13, seriously injured after car hits tree

A 21-year-old man has died and three teenage girls have been injured, one critically, after a crash in Sheffield.

Police were called to Ellesmere Road in Burngreave at around 3.40am this morning after reports that a silver Astra was on fire after hitting a tree.

The driver of the car, died at the scene. The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was taken to hospital suffering serious injuries. Her condition is described as critical.

Two female backseat passengers, aged 16 and 17 suffered minor injuries.

Officers have closed a number of roads including Earldom Street, Earldom Road, Petre Street and Sutherland Road. The roads will remain closed for some time while investigations are ongoing at the scene.

11 guilty in crash-for-cash scam

A gang of fraudsters have been found guilty of a series of "crash for cash" scams worth more than half a million pounds.

A major police investigation began after they staged a bus crash in the Burngreave area of Sheffield two years ago. Detectives eventually linked them to 10 more incidents in Sheffield, Rotherham and Halifax.

Man arrested over Burngreave shooting

A man has been arrested after a man was shot in Sheffield.

A 22-year-old man from Burngreave suffered gun shot wounds to his hand and arm on Tuesday 9 October. It is understood he was shot on Burngreave Road between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Officers want to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious that can help with the investigation.

Following further enquiries and information received from the public, we have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, he is currently in custody assisting the police with their enquiries.
