Unison women tackle domestic violence in Bradford

A team of women from the Unison union are taking on a gruelling 12 hour gym session to raise money to support victims of domestic violence.

The event is taking place at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Odsal.

The women are hoping the money they raise will support parents and children who have been forced to live in special refuges to escape domestic violence.

Bradford Council is donating use of the equipment for free.

What we raise will help to buy some much needed Christmas presents for the children who will be in refuges over the festive period.

We felt we should do something to help and our 12-hour session in the gym is a good way to raise both money and awareness of the White Ribbon campaign."

Hull police launch campaign to tackle domestic violence

A campaign is being launched in Hull to make people aware of the help and support which is available to victims and perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse.

Stress levels tend to hit a peak during the festive period, which is what professionals believe may significantly contribute to the increased number of calls Humberside Police and partner agencies receive for domestic related incidents, between the months of November and January.

Operation Nightwing is a police led domestic violence project which runs from late November until the beginning of January every year. Extra resources are made available, so that officers can act immediately to respond to calls for service which are of a domestic violence nature.
