US Masters champion Danny Willett: "It brings you back down to earth when you're changing a nappy"

Sheffield sporting superstar Danny Willett proudly showed off his new son for the first time today.

The new Masters champion, faced the cameras alongside his wife Nicole and son Zac at Lindrick Golf club near Worksop.

Duncan Wood spoke to them about a whirlwind few weeks.

Danny Willett 'to lock away golf clubs for two weeks'

US Masters champion Danny Willett has told ITV Calendar he will be locking away his golf clubs for the next two weeks to spend time with his wife and newborn baby son.

Willett, who returned to his South Yorkshire home yesterday appeared in front of the media with his wife, Nicole, and their son, Zachariah earlier today.

The 28-year-old made history at the weekend by becoming the first British golfer to win at Augusta National since Sir Nick Faldo 20 years ago.

Civic reception for golfing hero

Sheffield City Council is planning a civic reception for Masters champion Danny Willett - and wants to add his name to the 'Legends' walk of fame.

“I would like to say a huge congratulations to Danny Willett on behalf of the city of Sheffield.

“We are incredibly proud of Danny’s achievements, especially considering he started his golfing career on one of our council golf courses.

“The council plans to hold a civic reception in his honour, and award him a star on Sheffield’s famous ‘Legends’ walk of fame alongside other remarkable sons and daughters of this great city from Sir Michael Palin, to Jessica Ennis-Hill, to Helen Sharman. We think after all he has achieved, he deserves the accolade of legend.”

Danny Willett's wife speaks of 'whirlwind two weeks'

The wife of Masters hero Danny Willett has spoken of her delight at her husband's triumphant win - and of the whirlwind two weeks following the birth of the couple's son, Zachariah, who was nine days premature.

Nicole Willett, who celebrates her 28th birthday today, said the win was the best present she has ever had and that the whole family was "absolutely delighted."

We face timed each other and it was breaking up - so I was screaming 'ring the house phone'. We spoke and we're just in huge shock. It's the best birthday present I've ever had. It really has been a whirlwind of a two weeks.

Cradling two-week-old baby Zachariah, Nicole described her husband as a "devoted golfer" and dismissed any talk of sibling rivalry between him and his three brothers, saying: "There's no sibling rivalry really, they just have a bit of banter - but they're all over the moon."

Danny's youngest brother, Sam, who is 17, said he'd spoken to Danny this morning and that he was 'buzzing'. "It's like winning the world cup,"he said.

Danny is expected back home in Worksop tomorrow.
