We are being urged to take extra care if we are on the region’s moorlands. It is because it will be another warm weekend, following weeks of dry conditions.

Last April there was a huge blaze on Ovenden Moor near Halifax, which destroyed huge areas of biologically diverse moorland. It took weeks for firefighters to put it out and cost thousands of pounds.

Now, people are being asked not to start any sort of fire, but also a stray cigarette end, a spark from a pipe or even the rays from the sun on discarded drinks bottles.
