Man sought over rape of 15-year-old girl

A "black man with a London accent" is being sought in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Longley Park, Sheffield, last month.

The teenager was assaulted by the man on Wednesday 1 July, a day which many people may remember as the hottest day of the year. It happened at around 7.30pm. The offender is described as a black man with a London accent and short black hair. He is around 6ft 1ins tall, of slim build, and wore a black top with black Bench jeans.

"We have a team of officers dedicated to working on this inquiry and are committed to finding the person responsible. The attack happened in the early evening and it would still have been daylight on a day that was the hottest day of the year by some margin. I am hoping that this will jog someone's memory as I am confident that someone will have seen something that could assist with our enquiry. "The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time. Such attacks are thankfully rare and I'd urge anyone with information to come forward to tell us what you know."

– Detective Inspector Steve Ashmore

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 143 of 18 July 2015.

Teen rapist named and shamed

A court has heard of the nightmare ordeal of a Japanese tourist who was robbed and raped in Sheffield by a schoolboy - who was just 15 years old at time. She was attacked as she walked to visit a friend.

A judge today said she may never recover and said the teenager should be named and shamed as Jerone Thompson. He was caught after DNA evidence helped track him down as Martin Fisher now reports.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a teenage girl was attacked in Castleford.

The attack happened on 5 July as the 15-year-old walked home from school.

She was followed by a man along Wilson Street, Saville Road and Moss Street, before he dragged her into a ginnel an attempted to sexually assault her. It is then thought he was disturbed by passers by and ran off.

It is as officers investigate a second attack in the area, although they are not believed to be linked at this stage. On 28 June a 32-year-old woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault in a wooded area off Leeds Road.

Detectives are carrying out enquiries in the area and officers are providing reassurance to local residents.
