This weekend sees the anniversary of the D-Day landings – the 6th of June 1944, a turning point in the Second World War.
Every year, groups of veterans head to Normandy to visit the places where they fought and to remember those who lost their lives. Now, veterans across Yorkshire are being offered free trips, as part of a scheme funded by the huge Libor bank fines. A former serviceman from Scarborough’s just been taken on one of the trips, along with a number of other veterans. They were joined by our reporter Lauren Hall.
First-hand recollections of former Second World War veterans and civilians have inspired a new drama in Lincolnshire. The 20 minute film charts the emotional journey of a seven man Lancaster Bomber crew as they fly across occupied Europe.
