Campers stranded in the snow

A group of campers woke to Arctic scenes today as they found themselves stranded in 3ft of snow. Owners of the Marfit Head Farm camp site, on the North Yorks Moors, said they were sitting in their shorts and T-shirts enjoying a barbecue this time last week. Today the snow is drifting waist-deep.

Farmer Angela Hodgson said: "There are people camping and it's 3ft deep. They just want to get out and go home, I think."

She said the A169 was closed due to the conditions and the farm had been hit by a power failure.

She added that they were trying to get a generator going so the dairy herd could be milked.
