New mothers could be paid to breastfeed

New mothers are to be offered up to £200 in shopping vouchers to encourage them to breastfeed their babies.

The pilot scheme is being targeted at deprived areas of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire and is to be funded by the government and the medical research sector.

Professor Mary Renfrew, from Dundee University, is behind the scheme, which if successful, could be rolled out nationwide.
