Aristocats launch community cinema

A community cinema is due to be launched in Sheffield with an interactive screening of Disney's The Aristocats.

Handmade Cinema, which has been set up by Sheffield-based Ellie Ragdale, is run solely by young people for the benefit of families in the city.

This project is unique because we will get local children and families involved in creating the cinema through building sets in workshops, and on the night everyone dresses up for a really exciting experience.

I hope to establish Handmade Cinema as Sheffield's number one children's interactive film club.

Cinemagoers are being asked to dress in cat costumes for the inaugural screening, which takes place from 4pm at the Old Junior School in Southview Road, Sharrow.

There will be a live jazz band, French cuisine and cat painting on the day, while artists will hold free workshops in schools and community groups before the event to create the set for the screening.

Tickets cost £2.50 per adult and £1.50 per child. Booking is not required.
