After five years of controversy, work on Bradford's Broadway shopping centre is finally getting underway.
The developers say 4,000 retail and construction jobs will be created and civic leaders described today as one of the most important days in Bradford's recent history.
They say it also marks the beginning of what they hope will be the revival of the city's struggling retail sector. David Hirst reports.
