A man from East Yorkshire has been given an 18 month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to five fraud offences at Hull Crown Court.
Matthew James Money, 43, of Old Annandale Road, Kirk Ella, pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by abuse of position and one offence of fraud by false representation.
All the offences were linked to his role sub-letting student accommodation in Hull as the Managing Director of KCAccommodation (formally Kingston Crown Accommodation Centre Limited), were he agreed to collect rent for landlords but kept all the money rather than a percentage as commission.
Mr Money was found to have withheld utility bills paid to him by tenants, leading to arrears with utility companies and in some cases services being cut.
He also failed to provide fixture and fittings that were promised to tenants and failed to fix boilers when they broke down.
DC Stacey Ombler from Hull’s Priority Crime Team who led the investigation said: “It became clear during the investigation that MONEY targeted landlords due to their vulnerability and inability to chase things up due to personal circumstances."
