Ryedale District Council votes to oppose fracking at site in Kirby Misperton

Ryedale District Council has voted against a plan to allow fracking at a site in North Yorkshire.

Third Energy applied for permission to extract shale gas from a site in Kirby Misperton, just north of Malton.

Seven district councillors objected to the proposal at a meeting tonight. The final decision will be taken by North Yorkshire County Council in a few weeks time.

Friends of the Earth’s Yorkshire Campaigner, Simon Bowens, described it as 'great news' for the people of Ryedale.

“The councillors have listened to the people they represent who are rightly concerned about the impacts fracking could have on their health, environment and local economy.

We now call upon the North Yorkshire councillors to reject the application when it is put before them next month.”
