Runaway pig that brought M62 in West Yorkshire to a standstill returned safely to its owners

A pig that caused miles of traffic after an hour-long stand off with police on the M62 motorway near Leeds has been returned to its owner.

Highways England traffic officers arrived and closed the road at around 7.20pmafter receiving a call from police at 7.05pm about a pig on the hard shoulder.

The pig,seen on the road in CCTV images, was not captured by police until 8.30pm, at which point there was a 3.5-mile queue eastbound and a 1.8-mile queue westbound, a Highways England spokesman said.

The pig is unharmed and back with its owners.
