Major changes to bus services as Caribbean Carnival comes to Leicester

The streets of Leicester will be awash with colour today as thousands of people turn out to watch the Caribbean Carnival parade as it makes its way from the centre to Victoria Park.

The Carnival is now in its 27th year, and celebrates Caribbean food, music, costume and dance.

The celebration lends itself to embracing art forms from Leicester’s diverse community while at the same time ensuring that the true meaning of the Caribbean Carnival remains intact.

The procession of feathers and sequins means the streets will be packed out- so there will be changes to several bus routes:

  • From 1:30pm - 4:30pm, there will be no buses travelling through Charles Street and Haymarket.

  • London Road will be inaccessible between Mayfield Road roundabout and St George's Way from about 12.30pm to 6pm, and won't be served by buses during this time.

  • Buses that normally use London Road will go via St Peter's Road and Swain Street if they are coming from Evington, or via Victoria Park Road and Welford Road if they are coming from the direction of Oadby.

Alternative arrangements are in place and details of the changes are available at:
