Man admits burglary in Melton farm shooting case

A man from Leicester has admitted taking part in a break-in at a remote farmhouse in which gunshots were fired.

Daniel Mansell, 33, appeared at Loughborough Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal. Another man, Joshua O'Gorman, 27, from Leicester, who also faces the same charge, did not enter a plea.

Police were called to a cottage in Welby near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The householders, Andy and Tracey Ferrie, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, police announced today they will not face charges.

Today both Mansell and O'Gorman were remanded in custody. Mansell will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on 25 September. O'Gorman will appear in court again next Friday by video link.
