A Northamptonshire cat that holds a Guinness World Record for having the ‘loudest purr’ has died.

14-year-old Smokey set the record of 67.7 decibels, as loud as a hairdryer or lawn mower, when she was recorded at Northampton College in April 2011.

After achieving the world record Smokey appeared in every UK national newspaper and on ITV’s This Morning.

Smokey’s owner, Ruth Adams from Pitsford, said she would be “greatly missed by her family” after the cat suffered kidney failure.
