As temperatures dip below freezing this weekend, Leicester's gritting lorries have been out on the city's roads.

Six gritting lorries have been spreading rock salt spreading salt on the city’s main road networks last night and today.

It's the eighth time that the gritters have been used in the winter months.

The council is also encouraging people to do their bit to keep local roads and footpaths safe and ice-free by providing more than 300 grit bins.

We have enough salt in store for around 100 days of frosty conditions or about 15 days of heavy snow.

By using a specialist road surface temperature forecasting service, we have access to the best possible weather information – which means that we only grit the roads when it’s necessary.
