Extra lorries from HS2 construction to over-congest Coventry

Hundreds of extra lorries could make Coventry over-congested every day during the construction of HS2, according to Government traffic predictions.

The report says the Gibbet Hill area near the University of Warwick would be epecially badly hit by the extra trucks.

One of the worst-affected streets would be Kenilworth Road, with 1,125 HGVs using the stretch between Stoneleigh Road and Kenilworth each day.

Coventry City Council says it is concerned that the University of Warwick and Westwood Business Park may not be able to operate effectively during the construction.

The construction of HS2 is due to start in 2017, and is scheduled to last seven years.

The extra traffic during that time would largely happen because of earth being moved away from the new rail line site, and workers and materials traveling from the planned HS2 depot at Stoneleigh.Roads affected by HS2 traffic:
