The number of people visiting the Library of Birmingham fell by almost 600,000 last year.

A decision was made to slash opening hours because of council savings in 2015.

1.83 million people passed through the doors last year, compared with 2.4 million the year before.

The £189 million library took seven years to build and was opened in 2013.

"We have recently increased the library's opening hours, offering users greater flexibility. The Library of Birmingham is an incredibly popular and well-used facility, remains one of the most visited attractions not just in Birmingham but in the UK as a whole and is a building the city can be proud of."
