Body of hiker from Shropshire recovered from Peruvian Andes

The body of a missing hiker has been recovered in the Peruvian Andes.

Harry Greaves, 29, who is from Oswestry in Shropshire was visiting friends in the South American country but went missing on April 7 after planning to spend the day by himself on a mountain.

His friends expected to see him back on April 10, the day after his 29th birthday, but he did not return.

Yesterday his family and the Foreign Office confirmed that he had died.

Rescuers believe he may have slipped. Henry Ancache, who was leading the rescue efforts said:

The grass is a little bit wet so he might have slipped. It was snowing this morning and the fog was low to the ground

His family paid tribute to him yesterday and thanked rescuers for their help.
