A burglar who broke into his own grandmother’s home in Castle Bromwich to steal her bank cards has been jailed for five years.

Anton Rice, 23 and of no fixed address, stole £250 from the account of Valerie Colvin after taking her card from her handbag.

The former chef later broke back into her home in the middle of the night to steal another £50 cash on October 31.

After being released on bail, he then went on to commit two more burglaries and one theft in Water Orton, Warwickshire, in November.

Rice pleaded guilty to four charges of burglary, one of theft, one of fraud, and one of assault with intent to resist arrest on Friday June 10.

Judge Wall sentenced Rice to five years in total, with at least half to be served in prison:

It doesn’t take much imagination to realise how terrifying it must have been for her. You broke into the house of your grandmother, took her bank card and proceeded to use it.

After your arrest you were released on bail and in effect were on an ‘away day’ to Water Orton. I reject that you have this remorse. You shouldn’t have put her in this difficult position as to whether she forgives you.
