A group of passengers were facing a long wait getting home tonight after their flight to Birmingham had to return to Tenerife because of the 'disruptive behaviour ' of two passengers.
Monarch Airlines confirmed its flight ZB933 had departed for the UK this morning but diverted back to Tenerife airport where one of the passengers was arrested.
The airline said it takes "a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour on board all of our flights. The safety and security of our passengers, crew and aircraft is our absolute priority."
A woman who claimed to have been onboard told ITV News Central that a passenger had been using lighter fuel to set fire to his hands.She said:
After returning to Tenerife, the remaining passengers were later flown to Portugal where they faced further delays. Monarch explained.
