People urged to fight loneliness in Leicestershire

People in Leicestershire are being urged to make a pledge to help fight the 'hidden epidemic of loneliness'.

The ‘post it, pledge it, mean it’ social media campaign from Leicestershire Health and Wellbeing Board, part of Leicestershire County Council, has been set up to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of social isolation.

Councillor Ernie White, chair of Leicestershire’s Health and Wellbeing Board and cabinet member for health said:

The authority already has a number of initiatives set up to help reduce loneliness in Leicestershire.

  • Local area coordinators – These are people who work to support the community and their needs

  • First Contact Plus - An online tool for people in Leicestershire to find local services

  • SHIRE Community Grants – These exist for projects in local areas that need funding to grow or develop in order to benefit the community
