The headteacher at a school in Leicester which was vandalised this weekhas said the mindless behaviour of the vandals has affected the whole community and the school will now remain closed all week.

Jatinder Mahil at Braunstone Community Primary described the incident as pointless.

Hundreds of children missed the first day of term after vandals broke into their school, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Around 45 windows and doors throughout Braunstone Community Primary in Leicester were smashed on Monday evening, leaving glass in the nursery playground. Furniture and play equipment was also broken.

Teachers are continuing with the clean up operation and trying to get the damage repaired for the 460 children enrolled at the school to return as soon as possible next week.
