Racing fever continues: what do I need to know?

The first race at Uttoxeter will take place just before 2:00, with The Midlands Grand National starting at 3.35pm.

It is the second largest steeplechase in the UK, after the Aintree Grand National. It's estimated to generate around £4m for the local economy.

  • Betting - You can usually bet as little as £2 on a horse
  • Dress code - no strict dress code but people like to dress up. But remember it is still March. There's some grass around the parking area.
  • Travel - thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the county with around 16,000 people are expected. There'll be extra train services.

Mark Deaville is Highways Chief at Staffordshire County Council.

With around 16,000 people expected for the event we know our roads will be much busier than normal. The most important thing is that everyone gets to, and from the venue safely and I would like to remind people to plan their journeys ahead and allow themselves plenty of time to get there.

It's always a great event that showcases the best of the county and provides an important boost to our tourism sector. With all the B&Bs, hotels and restaurants booked up over the weekend, we hope people get a taste of what our great county has to offer and then return for a future visit."
