A drug smuggler who trafficked cocaine to criminal groups across the country has been jailed.

Adrini Kuqi was caught with a quantity cocaine in the back of his BMW after police stopped him on the M42, south of Birmingham, in November last year.

Officers later searched Kuqi’s home address and found a replica automatic handgun, three further one kg packages of cocaine in a laptop case and a quarter of a kg of cocaine in his fuse box cupboard, along with cash worth over £16,000

The drugs in the car and the house, which were similarly packaged, had a street value of an estimated £1.2million.

31-year-old Kuqi was jailed for ten years, along with a concurrent one-year prison sentence for money laundering, at Birmingham Crown Court this week.

The sentence follows an investigation by the National Crime Agency.

Paul Risby, Midlands branch commander for the NCA, said:

“Adrini Kuqi moved drugs around the country to make money. Like most organised criminals, he wasn’t bothered about the consequences unless it affected his bank balance. In seizing the drugs we’ve removed a significant revenue stream from the criminal economy and disrupted a complex network of criminality.”
