Nottingham Forest lose Assombalonga to Middlesbrough

Nottingham Forest have lost striker Britt Assombalonga after he signed a club-record deal to join Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old scored 30 Championship goals in 47 starts for the Midlands club after joining from Peterborough in 2014.

Assombalonga said “I can’t wait to get started and train with the boys. I’m glad it’s completed and I can focus on what’s ahead now."

The striker has thanked Nottingham Forest fans and wished his former club all the best for the new season.

“I want to thank the Forest fans for being behind me, especially after my injury,” he added.

“They gave me a chance in the Championship and I want to say thanks to them and wish them all the best for the season.”

Nottingham Forest said on their website "Middlesbrough FC outbid various other clubs to sign Britt Assombalonga. As a club we felt that since the fee agreed met the buyout clause in his contract and he wanted to move it would be wrong to stand in his way."
