More than 50 firefighters tackle large fire at recycling plant

Fire crews are currently dealing with a large fire at a recycling plant in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

More than 50 firefighters from across three counties are at MBA Polymers where around 500 tonnes of plastic are on fire at the Sandy Lane site.

A large smoke plume could be seen as far away as Mansfield and The Environment Agency said they were working to assess the environmental impacts.

The fire involves a large amount of rubber, hence the thick black smoke that people can see for several miles around. Fortunately the fire is outside of the factory, which makes it easier for us to access, and our crews are working hard to contain it and stop it from spreading.

The A60 is closed in both directions and there are reports of traffic queues and congestion around the A57/High Grounds Road.

Sandy Lane is closed between the A57 roundabout and the football ground.

So far, there have been no reports of any people experiencing ill effects from this fire but residents are being advised to keep doors and windows closed.
