Fire crews responding to a 999 call had a gun pointed at them as they fought a blaze at a cannabis farm.

A senior fireman said the crew members involved were “shaken up” by the experience.

The incident happened on Gregory Avenue, Weoley Castle, Birmingham, at around 8pm last night (30 August) and involved crews from Northfield.

Watch commander Phil Richards said:

We were called to an electrical fire. While we were there a man walked past and pointed a gun at the crew.

He told us it wasn’t real and tried to break it in front of us. I told him it was an offence.

The police arrived to question a man. If he had been younger, you might have thought it was just kids.

He said the fire itself was a blaze in a junction box outside the address. The mains had been bypassed and overheated. The house was set up as a cannabis farm.
