A 23-year-old man from Kidderminster has been sentenced to life after being found guilty of murdering his housemate.

Henry Lewis Jones, of Offmore Road, will serve a minimum of 18 years for killing 55-year-old Mark Beresford earlier this year.

On Friday 24 March paramedics were called to a property on Offmore Road, Kidderminster, at around 8.30pm

On arrival, they found that Mark Beresford had sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

A police investigation was launched after hospital staff reported their concerns about the cause of Beresford's injuries.

Jones had originally claimed that Beresford had fallen over in the kitchen at the house where they both lived.

The jury agreed that his account of the incident was false and found him guilty of murder.

West Mercia Police Detective Chief Inspector Leighton Harding said:

It was shown throughout the course of the trial that Jones lied right to the end; however the jury rejected that he acted in self defence.

This has been a difficult trial for Mark's family to be witness to, particularly with the lack of remorse shown by Jones. They have acted with dignity throughout which I thank them for.
