Armed robbers who threatened staff with knife and a machete jailed

Two armed robbers who threatened staff with a knife and a machete at a supermarket in Stafford have been jailed.

The men, both from Stafford, were caught when they tried to check into a hotel with bin bags full of cigarettes, cash and spirits they’d stolen hours earlier.

Gavin Milgate and Scott Stretton were sentenced on 5th January for the robbery at the Tesco Express store in Stone Road, Stafford on 4th October 2017.

Milgate, who's 34, of no fixed address, was sentenced to five years and three months for robbery, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon and theft of a motor vehicle. His sentence also included 14 weeks for a suspended sentence for an earlier offence.

Stretton, aged 34, of Young Avenue, Holmcroft, Stafford, was sentenced to six years for robbery and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

Stretton's sentence also included a 14-week suspended sentence for an earlier offence and five months for an attempted burglary at a house near Haughton, Stafford, on 15th August 2017.
