Thousands march in Birmingham to protest against extremism and terrorism

It is estimated that five thousand people marched in Birmingham today.

The biggest march was held in Victoria Square by The True Democratic Football Lads Alliance. They say they are football fans who oppose terrorism and extremism.

They led the march in support of the victims of the Birmingham pub bombings.

By the Millennium Point, The Football Lads Alliance - a separate group with similar name and motives - held another protest.

A counter demonstration was held by the group Stand Up To Racism.

Police officers from across the country were there to assist West Midlands Police. No one has been arrested.

The protests caused some disruption in the city centre with several pubs remaining closed until 4pm to avoid possible trouble.
