A driver from Walsall who hit an elderly woman and left her for dead in Great Barr has been jailed for six months.
Mary Humpherson, known by her loved ones as Betty, was hit as she crossed Birmingham Road on 21 October 2016.
Leon Grant, of Reservoir Street, was sentenced after he admitted failing to stop, failing to report a collision and driving with no licence or insurance. There was no evidence that he had driven carelessly or dangerously.
The 88-year-old was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo driven by 28-year-old Grant and was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but died later that day.
Grant was arrested after handing himself in to a police station in February 2017.
