Comedian Joe Lycett has called out Birmingham's sunseekers for leaving behind piles of rubbish over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

The 29-year-old, who has appeared on shows such as QI and Live at the Apollo, took to social media to express his disgust and post a selfie with the discarded litter at Cannon Hill Park.

He commented: "Hate to sound like your mother but if you enjoyed the beauty of Cannon Hill Park yesterday then the least you can do is respect it and the safety of the animals that live in it by putting your rubbish in a bin."

One shocked twitter user replied: "Oh gosh. That’s awful. I used to live opposite Cannon Hill park and the litter would blow everywhere after a busy sunny day."

Residents across the East and West Midlands have expressed anger after mounds of debris were left at beauty spots all over the region.

David Gray was disgusted after coming across food and plastic packets dumped at Watermead Park in Leicester.

Meanwhile this Nottingham resident found bottles and cans lining Beeston canal.

Twitter user @PlogOnBrum decided to give Birmingham a spring clean with some 'plogging' - a new fitness trend where runners pick up litter while on a jog.
