Pair to face trial charged with murdering teenager in street stabbing

A 17-year-old youth and a 21-year-old man are to stand trial accused of murdering a teenager in a street stabbing.

Ozell Pemberton was found fatally wounded in Sutton Coldfield town centre in Birmingham on May 17th 2018.

A post-mortem examination revealed the 16-year-old died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday,

The 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and 21-year-old Oscar Ingram pleaded not guilty to his murder at Birmingham Crown Court.

Ingram, of Banners Grove, Erdington, Birmingham, stood in the dock wearing a grey tracksuit, surrounded by security officers.The teenager appeared by video-link.

Ozell's parents, friends and other family members were in court for the hearing.

Fixing a trial date, Judge Patrick Thomas QC said:

I must formally warn both defendants it will be necessary in due course to provide a defence case statement and if they do not do so, it may well count against them.

A trial date has been set for October 29th. It is expected to last up to four weeks.
