Unsold food will be redirected to help hundreds of local charities in the East Midlands in a new project.

Co-op has teamed up with the charity FareShare which distributes food that would otherwise go to landfill sites, to charities, schools and community groups.

The scheme has been such a success that it is being rolled out across the region.

It is hoped it will cut food waste by 40% and provide more than one million meals a year to vulnerable people.
