Murder investigation launched after man dies as a result of severe head injuries

A murder investigation has been launched after a man has died as a result of severe head injuries following reports of a fight on a Birmingham street.

Officers were called to the incident on Turchill Drive, Walmley in Sutton Coldfield just before 11pm on Friday 27 July 2018.

A man who is said to be in his 60s was found with severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and has been in hospital undergoing a mental health assessment.

A cordon remains in place for police to carry out forensic enquiries.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines of the West Midlands Police homicide team said:

Our investigation is making good progress but I would like to hear from anyone who may have information. Every bit of information is vital to our investigation and I would urge anyone who can help to contact me direct on 101. The man’s family have been informed and are currently being supported by specially-trained officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this time.
