Firefighters finally leave site of Roaches blaze after nearly two weeks

After burning uncontrollably for nearly two weeks, fire crews have now left the site of a huge blaze in the Staffordshire Peak District.

Around 200 acres of land has been completely destroyed at The Roaches near Leek, causing devastation for the wildlife.

It could take ten years to undo the damage.

It is thought an out of control campfire caused the destruction. But despite repeated warnings from the fire service, more disposable BBQs have been found left in the area - actions branded as reckless by those who risked their lives fighting this fire.
