Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Melton Mowbray in which a man died.

Officers were called by paramedics just after 7.50am on Friday 24 August to a report of a single vehicle collision in Melton Spinney Road, near to the Twinlakes Theme Park.

Police say the car, a grey Fiat Punto, left the road before colliding with a tree and coming to rest in a field.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed on Friday morning but re-opened during the afternoon. Detectives believe the crash could have happened hours before it was discovered.

Detective Constable Seamus Burns from Leicestershire Police, the investigating officer, said:

We know that the driver and vehicle left an address sometime after 11pm on Thursday night and although the emergency services were called at around 7.50am the following morning, there is a possibility that the collision may have happened in the hours earlier.
