Preparations have begun to make sure roads are safe in the winter.
In Nottinghamshire, work to replenish salt stocks began in May. The county council has 20,000 tonnes of salt on standby.
The snow and cold last winter led to treacherous conditions. Nottinghamshire's gritting team worked more than 400 hours in total - using 25,000 tonnes of salt.
The hope is that this winter won't be as harsh as the last - but if it is teams are ready.
