Double amputee schoolgirl up for outstanding courage award

An 8-year-old double amputee from Birmingham who has become a star of the catwalk is into the final of the 2018 Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons.

Daisy-May Demetre, from Northfield, has prosthetic legs after being born with a condition called fibula hemimelia which is a birth defect where part or all of a fibula or calf bone in the leg is missing.

The schoolgirl is in the final of the Young Hero category and the winner will be announced on Tuesday. The award recognises a young person who has shown outstanding courage or taken on an exceptional challenge.

Daisy-May has modelled for River Island and has starred at the London Fashion Week.
