Parts of Leicester to be lit up for the first time in big Christmas switch on

Leicester City Council has spent thousands of pounds updating its lights and decorations ahead of the big Christmas switch on.

The Council has invested £50,000 replacing the worn-out fixtures and fittings. They've also bought new lights and decorations for Church Gate and Loseby Lane, while St Martins and Hotel Street will be lit up for the first time.

This year, the 43ft tree next to the Clock Tower will be decorated in thousands of twinkling pea-lights.
