Sparks fly as irresponsible drivers caught in police crackdown

Police in the West Midlands have released video of two motorists driving dangerously as part of their Christmas crackdown on irresponsible driving.

In the first clip, a Ford Ka is seen weaving around the road, in Great Barr in Birmingham. He narrowly missed hitting parked cars a number of times.

Police say they caught the man driving four times over the drink-drive limit, and without a front tyre, on Sunday 2 December.

The 35-year-old admitted drink driving, dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance at Birmingham Magistrates Court. He'll be sentenced in January.

In the second clip, sparks were flying as a BMW X5 was driving down the M42 motorway without a front wheel, or a back tyre.

It ended up hitting a crash barrier southbound between junctions four and five, on the same day as the first clip.

The 24-year-old admitted dangerous driving, disqualified driving and failing to provide a breath specimen, and he will also be sentenced in January.

We can only hope the message gets through that there are real dangers to getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs. This is both to drivers and other innocent members of the public.

We have a zero tolerance approach and our officers are out there 24/7 to catch those who risk the safety, and lives, of themselves and innocent others.

Drink driving is unacceptable and we will catch and prosecute those who break the law.
