Thieves steal thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes in shop raid

Thieves have stolen £10,000 worth of designer clothing from a Sutton Coldfield shop - which took them nearly five hours to break into.

After seven attempts, the burglars managed to get inside Sutton Sports on Birmingham Road, in the early hours of Sunday (16 December)

They managed to steal Armani and Nike stock meant for online customers - many of whom now won't get the items they ordered in time for Christmas.

The drawn out break-in started at 12.15am, and the thieves left with the designer gear around 4.40am.

Police arrived at 5.05am but the burglars had already escaped.

I’m just shocked. This is the 10th year I have had the shop and I have never, ever had a break-in.

It happened on the busiest weekend of the year for us with online orders. The week before Christmas – it’s upsetting.

This didn’t seem to be planned and I think the thieves live nearby because they kept going and coming back.

I just don’t want them to do this to any other business.

– Ben Fairfaix, the owner of the business

The main burglary suspect is described as white, six foot plus, skinny and with a ‘distinctive’ nose and eyes.

The suspected accomplice is said to be black, six foot, wearing Nike Air Max trainers, G-Star jeans, a Stone Island jacket, a beige beanie and hoodie, aged around 25 to 30.

Police are investigating reports of a burglary at a shop in Birmingham Road, Wylde Green shortly after 4am on 16 December.

It is believed a man smashed the windows to the store, before returning an short time later and stealing a large quantity of clothes.
