Police investigating after goalkeeper "assaulted" during Chesterfield football match

Police have launched an investigation after a goalkeeper was allegedly assaulted by a fan during a football match between Chesterfield and Ebbsfleet United.

The game took place on Saturday and ended in a 3-3 draw.

After the full-time whistle, several Chesterfield fans invaded the pitch, with one running towards the Ebbsfleet United goalkepper, Nathan Ashmore.

Mobile phone footage captured the moment the two were involved in a scuffle on the ground before several Ebbsfleet United players attempt to separate the pair.

Today (7th January) Chesterfield Football Club confirmed that one fan had been banned for 10 years and two others had been banned for three years.

Disorder on matchdays, including pitch encroachment, will not be tolerated by the club and the swift action we have taken shows how seriously we take such matters. Incidents such as the ones we have experienced could have serious repercussions for the club and we will not hesitate to take further action, if necessary.

A Derbyshire police investigation is continuing.

The FA also says it is looking into the incident.
