Man and woman arrested after Stafford house fire

A 24-year old woman and a 28-year old man have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence, after a house fire in Stafford in which four children died.

Staffordshire Police made the arrests at around this afternoon (Friday) after an update from investigators into the probable cause of the fire on the Highfields estate. The man and woman are in custody.

Four children aged between three and eight died following the house fire in Sycamore Lane in the early hours of Tuesday.

The children who died have not been formally identified but have been named locally as Riley Holt, aged eight, Keegan Unitt, six, four-year-old Tilly Rose Unitt, and Olly Unitt, three.

A fifth child escaped from a first-floor window along with his mother and her partner.

Staffordshire Police teams say they understand there will be confusion and a demand for information on the case, and have urged people not to speculate as to what may have happened. They've appealed for patience while the investigation continues.
