Families have been queuing up to 2 hours to get into Twycross Zoo and traffic has been backed up to the M42 due to a half price ticket offer during the school half term break.

It's not the first time there's been problems due to a promotion. In January last year, traffic came to a standstill as families arrived to make the most of another half price offer. Queues reportedly stretched back four miles from the entrance and the zoo had to adopt a one out, one in policy.

The zoo has urged people to try again tomorrow. In a statement, it said it had been welcoming visitors as quickly as possible.

“February Half Term is a very busy time for us and we have been welcoming visitors as quickly as possible into the zoo so they can enjoy a great family day out. As a charity our visitors’ patience and support is greatly appreciated so we can continue our award winning conservation work."

– Karen Clarke, Chief Operating Officer at Twycross Zoo

The zoo is also advising anyone who wants to visit during the school to arrive early, check travel alerts before their journey and prepare for the possibility of a queue.
